Stonehenge |
Last Sunday, Olivia & I visited Stonehenge after Salisbury Cathedral. Afterward, we went onwards to Bath, one of the most beautiful cities in England. It rained on & off at Stonehenge with strong winds. If you’re unfamiliar with this historical monument, here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia:
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 2.0 miles (3.2 km) west of Amesbury and 8 miles (13 km) north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of a circular setting of large standing stones set within earthworks. It is at the centre of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.
It’s one of the most mysterious monuments in existence & has been around since 3100 BCE. Archaeologists believe that it was used as a ceremonial burial site, but there’s much more to the stones that continues to perpetuate its enigma today.
You can view an HD video I recorded of Olivia experiencing some first world problems at Stonehenge. We took a ton of pictures at Bath, so I’ll post those pictures later. Instead of checking back randomly hoping there’ll be a new post, subscribe to my RSS feed or follow me on Bloglovin’!
You know what I love about England’s Rum & Raisin ice cream? That it’s rum & raisin, not rum raisin. Come on, America. Pour more rum in our ice cream, get with it. What is this? The Prohibition?
alex
Wow awesome pics! I’ve heard of Stonehenge before, but I never actually visited nor have I ever been in England! Stonehenge looks indeed mysterious O_O they have an eerie air around them! I could feel it from the photos…or maybe you’re just a really good photographer 😀
Lovely photos! Glad you guys are having fun! I looove the jumping pics, hehe the ice cream looks good too! Rum & raisin? I never tried it before, but sounds tasty ;3

Thanks for stopping by, Alex! I appreciate the comment & compliments. 🙂 I’m glad you like the pictures. Rum & Raisin ice cream is pretty amazing. I hope you can adventure to England one of these days. I think it’s one of the most underrated countries to visit in Europe. Everyone always visits France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Amsterdam, etc & skip over England…but it’s amazing!!

Looks fun!
Joy
Wow, it all looks so beautiful! Stonehenge is featured in the series of books I’m reading at the moment so it’s really cool to see in awesome pictures!
Tiff
That is pretty cool! What book are you reading?
Jenny
You guys really do like jumping in every photo and place you guys go to. LOL, I love it!
Stonehenge looks pretty nice. It makes me really want to study abroad (if I am able to in my 2nd semester of junior or 1st semester of senior).
Tiff
You should totally study abroad!!! Better do it as a junior! haha yeah, Olivia loves jumping pictures. I think we’re going to do a million when we get to France tomorrow at the Eiffel Tower. But it’s supposed to rain this weekend. BOOOO!! 🙁
Shweta
OMG stonehenge, I’ve known about it since I was a kid. I am surely going to visit it someday. You’ve clicked pretty nice photos here. Love them. You know what you’ve increased my thirst of visiting England.
I want to ask something. How do you guys jump so perfectly? So cute! And that was a cute little jump by Olivia in the video haha. LOL for the umbrella thing 😀 It’s raining here right now too.
That ice cream looks yummy. I’m waiting for Bath photos. 🙂
Tiff
Aw Shweta, I’m glad I’m peaking your interest in traveling to England. It’s an amazing place. People are generally a lot more polite here than they are back at home in America. Guys actually buy you drinks in bars. Whattt? That doesn’t even happen anymore unless you’re dating the guy. hahaha.
Jumping pictures are just a matter of good timing & setting up your camera’s settings correctly. I have a DSLR so I make sure that my shutter speed is really fast so that I can capture the jump with precision instead of it being all blurry. Believe me, we took a million jumping pictures. I just threw a lot of them out because either we didn’t like our face in it or we didn’t time it correctly.
Bath pictures will have to be uploaded next week! I have a 2500 word paper to write that’s due on Thursday. 🙁 I appreciate that you take the time to stop by my site every time I post something new, girl!

Been wanting to go to Stonehenge, Tiff.. lol I heard some creepy story about Stonehenge though.. haha but then it’s amazing to know like how they’re built.. haha
I love those pictures you’ve taken too.. haha and the icecream looks yummy.. And yeah, I’ve heard from my cousin that it always rains in England.. wish I could really go visit her there and meet you too.. lol
Cant wait to see more updates~

Ah well, there are lots of mysteries behind Stonehenge, so I’m not surprised that you’d hear some weird things about it, but it’s all in the past. It’s amazing that the rocks aren’t actually from that area, but from Wales! All the way down from Wales! So crazy. Can’t imagine trying to lug all those rocks from Wales to Stonehenge.
It should be clearing up for the Olympics. It does always rain here year round (I checked the weather last year, that’s how anxious I was to be here!!), but it’s a beautiful country & a wonderful country!! You should totally save up some money & go visit your cousin! I’ll only be here until August 25th, but I’ll be in Spain anyway haha.

I’m reading The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott. I’m on book of 6 (8 if you count the digital side stories) and It was featured in it.
Tiff
Ahh is that similar to fanfiction for the Harry Potter series? Is it any good? I kind of don’t care too much about Nicholas Flamel. Kind of wish I could get more of a background story on how Lily & James fell in love!
Shweta
Really? I mean they buy drinks for someone other than their girlfriends? That’s so sweet and nice. And here in my country guys complain even for paying for the their own girls. Huhh disgusting!
I don’t have a DSLR yet but I’m saving up for buying one. Any suggestions? I can’t afford Nikon D90 or D60 so I was thinking about D40. But I’m still not sure if I should buy one or save up more for better camera.
No worries, I can wait that much for Bath pictures. 🙂
It’s completely my pleasure to visit your site; I’m so glad that I’ve found such a beautiful photojournal full of awesome pictures. 😀
Tiff
Hahhhh, yeah it’s kind of polite, I guess, but at the same time it’s very misleading. You don’t buy drinks for girls you’re not interested in. At least the guys here are really nice. That’s a nice change of pace.
Ummm the Nikon D90 is totally overrated. It’s a great camera, but it’s really big & bulky, overpriced, & the Nikon D5100 (the one I have) is a lot better. You can actually compare it on snapsort.com: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-T3i-vs-Nikon-D5100
Always awesome to get a DSLR that can shoot video! Totes worth it. I personally think you should save up for the Nikon D5100. It’s been one of the best investments of this year. You’ve seen my pictures & videos. Just imagine my pictures at 16.1 MP….which is friggin large & in charge. You’d easily be able to print out posters or have nice background wallpapers. hahaha. 🙂
Awww you’re so swee, Shweta. 🙂 It makes me really happy you enjoy stopping by. 😀

Lucky! I have always wanted to visit Stonehenge — some day I’ll get the chance. 🙂 What a fantastic day though — and that ice cream sounds insanely yummy. Quite unique!
Tiff
It’s pretty awesome! It was my second time visiting, but I still get blown away by it. I heard a lot of, “they’re just a bunch of rocks…” comments, but they’re just ignorant. There is so much history behind it & it’s just amazing that it’s still standing after all these years & that we still don’t know everything about it.
Liza
Those pictures look so perfect, and that’s really awesome! It looks like so much fun, and the first world problems thing is hilarious. 😛 Poor Olivia with her backwards umbrella. P:
Tiff
Thanks! Hahaa yeah I have another umbrella that pretty much did the same thing to me the other day, so I have to buy a new one. I lost my bubble umbrella! 🙁
tiff
That’s really awesome that you and your friend got to visit Stonehenge. All of the pictures turned out really great. The grass is beautifully green yet the sky is grey, it’s a nice contrast. I can’t wait for moar pictures!
Tiff
I’m glad you totes saw the contrast. You had to be there to really just have your eyes appreciate the color contrast. Absolutely gorgeous. Simply couldn’t capture it via camera…which is why I tried to record stuff, but even that didn’t do it justice.
Joy
Haha! No, not Harry Potter related at all. It’s really cool. It has a ton of historical people in it but they are in the present. I can send you the excerpt I have of the first book. It came free on my kindle fire.
Tiff
I could probably find it online somewhere, but thanks! I’ve got a bunch of books I’m trying to get through. I think I have enough to last me a lifetime right now haha. Sounds interesting though.
