My first & only sushi recipe I’ve published was on the same day I held my first giveaway. The recipe was simple, vegan, & healthy, but I’ve finally made some sushi during the day & photographed it. It’s not vegan nor is it vegetarian, but it uses a sustainable fish, it’s baked, & it’s spicy. My regular prop table is covered with cold process soap things, so I apologize these photos aren’t as white & bright as my other ones. The real testament is whether or not FoodGawker gives this a thumbs up. This sushi roll has a small element of baking in it, but I promise it’s worth your time. Plus, any extra filling you have leftover can be used in a salad, atop noodles, or to make even more sushi. Hmm…now that I think of it, this would’ve been a better post if I also ran my much delayed giveaway. Next time…next time…while I can’t giveaway my food, I can giveaway some of my awesome soapy-Martha-Stewarty creations (room sprays, soap, bath bombs, etc) so…yeah. That’s worth a lot. Anyway, recipe link & some pictures after the jump!
Spicy Barramundi Roll
I feel like my photos aren’t overexposed enough so this recipe may get rejected by FoodGawker, but that’s okay, TasteSpotting & I are BFFL so, whatevz. Try out my Spicy Barramundi Roll if you can get your hands on some Barramundi. If not, just use any other sustainable flaky white fish.
New Recipe
- Spicy Barramundi Roll Recipe
- I’d post a link to a new album, but I’d rather binge watch TV shows on Netflix than edit 1000 photos (LITERALLY OVER 1000).
- I’m sorry, please forgive me. I’ll try to get more done this week. At least maybe some Thailand pics.
- If I post another recipe, will that suffice for the time being???
- UGH FINE, HAVE IT YOUR WAY. I’LL DO BOTH.
- I hope you know I’m banning Netflix for you.
- Whom am I even talking to anyway?
Oh, my yum! That looks so, so good, and I’m not even fond of sushi XD I’ve never even heard of barramundi before, so I’ve learned something new 🙂
And ooh on the Thailand photos! I can’t wait until you post them in your blog! I saw some on your Instagram, and it really makes me want to visit there!
You don’t like sushi? I didn’t know that. That’s crazy talk.
I’m also another not a sushi lover! But I think I’m learning to since my best friend looooves sushi. I tested the waters by having sushi wrapped with soy paper and I’m slowly switching over to seaweed and trying more varieties of sushi.
Maaaaaaaaaybe I’ll try this recipe because I’m still a sushi noob! Haha
YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH ABOUT NOT BEING A SUSHI LOVER, YOU. Hah, well you said you’re learning, so you can’t say that! You’re a growing sushi lover. Come on now, give yourself some credit. The fact that you’re trying deserves a pat on the back. It really irks me when I meet someone & they’re stupid picky about food & they have such a particular palate that eating with them requires an essay convincing them to try something new. Just shut up & put it in your mouth. If you don’t like it, now you know. If you say, “I’m not going to like this…” before you’ve even tried it, chances are you, you just increased your chances of not liking it. Congrats. Stay in your boring old mac & cheese world forever. BLARGH. Anyway, you’re clearly not like that, so goooooo you, Connie!
Hmm I wouldn’t suggest this recipe if you’re just getting started with sushi. I’d probably suggest a California roll recipe or even just my vegan one because you can’t go wrong with avocado & cucumber. But if you’re feeling spicy & adventurous, go for it! If you can’t find barramundi, use another flaky white fish!
These look SO GOOD. I’m trying to buy myself groceries since I recently moved to live as an adult and was wondering what to buy and cook! First stop should be learning how to roll sushi.
Hi Liv! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂 This video on how to make California Rolls is made by some of my favorite Japanese food bloggers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD25U-pM1Qw
That should help you learn how to roll sushi. I prefer to place my bamboo mat in a ziploc bag rather than plastic wrap because I don’t like messing with it every time.
My suggestion for some first time grocery shopping meals is: pasta (whole wheat), noodles (your fav Asian ones), & things to make soup. Also, if you don’t want to make a pasta sauce from scratch, buy the sauce or you could just try to make some carbonara (don’t use any recipes where they call for cream, that’s not how you make carbonara, you use eggs & cheese). Not super healthy, but loaded with protein haha. Also, get some aluminum foil, because baking things is really healthy & baked veggies = simple & amazing!
Can’t wait to make this for my special one ? seems legit
