I have a test today, so I prepared a Musical Monday for all of you ahead of time. Mellifluous is the third mix I’ve made since I started Musical Mondays & is suitable for female audiences since, well, everyone who sings is a woman. It doesn’t mean a man can’t enjoy it, but it’s obvious that more likely than not, a woman would find this more appealing. This playlist features voices from contemporary female artists, with an upbeat start that transitions to a more mellow, sleepy half. It’s a great playlist for background noise while working, preparing for bed & falling asleep to it, or for one of those days you just feel like some easy listening. Hopefully this mix will help you discover new songs, artists, &/or genres so ladies, I hope you enjoy it.

Deliciously Happy Days

Since I’ve started pro-actively editing my photos in Lightroom, I’ve felt a resurgence for a passion in photography that I felt was absent for quite some time. My photos just felt flat, stagnant, lacked excitement, & were often just so mundane. They became to reflect my own feelings of an ever deteriorating self-worth & happiness, but right around the time when I begun to rely on Lightroom to add more vibrance, saturation, & color curves into my photos, my awkward post-graduate-plateau-of-a-life, my personal life began to pick up. Even the tomato plant I thought would surely wilt in this Californian drought found a way to beat the odds against insects, dry weather, & heat to produce baby San Marzano tomatoes. So, what’s changed? I’m cooking more, eating healthier food, & I’m trying to find a favorable balance between work, reading, catching up with friends, cooking, photographing, volunteering, & the joys of post-processing. In short, I’m doing more with my time, waking up earlier, sleeping at appropriate hours, & eating more power foods. Sometimes when you feel as though you’re in a sinking ship, it helps to look around to remember that you’re not alone. Sometimes you can ask others to help you repair your ship, but most of the time, you have to remember that you’ve got to try to fix your ship yourself.

So, shall I start this post with a recipe first or events? Let’s go with food because I have new recipes!

Foodie Fridays

You know how sometimes you want to update your website, but you really have no idea what to write about? No? Before I evolved TB to center around recipes, I used to post pictures everyday (sort of) without anything more than a simple caption of what your eyeballs were glancing at. Now that I’m forcing myself to write something witty & interesting with every post, I can no longer do food photo dumps without some purpose. This has led to a bunch of my photos sitting on my computer from last year & beyond, unseen by my regular visitors. Well, one of my solutions is to simply create a new series that will be more specific to an all encompassing theme. Foodie Fridays will be my food dump days, so I guess there might not be a real point to any of these future posts other than to tell you about some restaurants, grocery stores, or how good/bad/mediocre the food I consumed was. Since not too many people visit a food blog to read anything, Foodie Fridays will fully appreciate the, “wow, this post is making me hungry & my desk has accumulated some drool from my mouth,” comments more than ever!

Kitayama’s Amberjack Nigiri

Phew! After intensively studying for the MCAT for the past few months, it’s finally over & I can finally move onwards with my life. I felt as though studying for this dreaded standardized test was equivalent to pausing everything I really wanted to do & not so much a step closer to getting to where I need to be for my career. It’s not as though I’ve lost interest or passion in a career in the health field – the MCAT has just been a pesky splinter in-between my toes. I put nearly everything else on pause while I focused all my brain power into pushing through the pain & plucking out that minuscule fragment causing my misfortune.

To numb the pain a bit with ice, Josh & I had dinner at Kitayama, a beautiful Japanese restaurant with a crew of friendly staff including gorgeous servers–hollah at my girl Vy–, nice hosts, & entertaining sushi chefs. We ordered the omakase, which grants the chefs liberty to be creative with the fish they had. It’s always a wonderful experience to see what new mouthwatering dishes sushi chefs come up with right in front of you. Having been able to consume such wonderful meals in the past few weeks, I decided to compile a post of mouthwatering Asian dishes from various countries–realistically, I just posted three, but whatever just go with it.

Matsu’s Sumo Roll

Did anyone else stop & ask how in the world February got here so quickly? I mean, technically it’s not February yet, but it’s February somewhere–I’m looking at you, Australia–so roll with me here. It seems that I always start off my posts remarking on how much time has passed, but I really don’t know how it escapes me. I look up & it says it’s 9 PM & then I look up again & all of a sudden it’s really 1:30 AM & I should be in bed. I don’t even…what…

Since I’m trying to intensely study for a life altering exam known as the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test), I’ve isolated myself in my home because I know if I take a trip to the grocery store, I’m just not going to want to study after. This poses a simple First World Problem: what the heck do I eat when all the leftovers are gone? There’s only so much instant ramen & Spaghetti O’s a girl can eat before the spoiled snob demanding variety that is her tongue, can tolerate.

This is the part when my amazing mother comes into play. She’s been working so hard lately that she barely has any time to stop by the grocery store & whip up a family dinner, so she orders food for the family from restaurants instead. This isn’t a feasible solution since ordering take out is much more expensive than cooking your own meals, but I’m certainly not complaining! More time for me to mindlessly surf the web study & more yums in the tums. Mommy dearest is always thoughtful enough to ask me if I want anything to eat so she can bring home the goods. I need to set aside a night to make her a lavish dinner…& then post the recipes after.
