What I Wore: Valentine’s Day

March 8, 2014 // Posted in Filler, Gallery, Photo Journal

March 8, 2014 | Posted in [post_category]

Bangle: H&M | Cardigan: Forever21 | Dress: Soprano | Earrings Macy’s | Nautical Charms Bracelet: Forever21

Scarf: Nordstrom’s | Shoes: Shoe Dazzle

The watch isn’t pictured on me because I still had to resize it to fit my tiny wrist, but it’s from Shoe Dazzle. It’s a really cheap watch, but it’s a great accessory to really pull your outfit together. What? No pictures of food nor recipes? Yeah, well that’s why I created a “filler” category in the first place. Testing out my selfie-taking abilities, I pulled out my tripod & remote to capture my look/vanity/narcissism. I think I took about an hour trying to take pictures of myself, racing to get decent shots before the sun went down. I felt pretty dumb posing by myself … for myself, so I doubt I’ll venture with this again because it was such a huge waste of time. Next time I have a decent outfit, I’ll just try to coax Josh into taking pictures of me. He just has to be patient enough to learn how to use my camera. It’s really not difficult, people just prefer to point & shoot as if a zombie couldn’t do that. Fashion blogging isn’t my cup of tea–or else you’d see me do it more often–but I wanted to photograph my outfit & makeup on my first Valentine’s Day with Josh.

Regardless of the off-topic post, it’s important to feel free to do embrace what you love to do most & to feel happy with yourself. If you’re not happy with what you’re doing, then move on & do something that makes you feel passionate about it. Sometimes that takes a bit of experimenting to find yourself. While I was taking photographs of myself, I knew that fashion blogging just wasn’t my thing. I find much more delight taking photos of food I create, but if you’re the opposite of me, embrace it & don’t let some hooligan bring you down. I hear you loud & clear, less pictures of my face, more pictures of food with recipes. I’ll deliver like Pizza Hut, just keep your panties on!

    Love the turquoise!!
A bit of variation in your blogging world isn’t really bad though, at least I wouldn’t think so if I were you. However, I must say I know the awkward feeling of taking pictures of yourself. It really makes me want to quit making photos of myself for the blog, but I still do it… #yolo? Oh, that’s so 2013 haha

Haha thanks! It is awkward indeed, but it makes your blog look great! I think it’s really about the attitude of confidence before you start photographing yourself that will make you feel less awkward.

You look gorg!!!!! I love the dress and all the accessories ^___^ Accessories are my weakness, seriously.

I feel you lol, when I did my Fashion Friday posts last year it was hard to use my tripod and get good pictures and I felt really weird doing so. Narcissistic indeed. I kinda wondered if my parents thought I was weird or what.

I asked my friend Seb to help me last time and it got done a lot quicker. I am sure Josh will pick it up quickly anyway. It’s good to have a friend to help you with these kinds of things 🙂

Admittedly sometimes I seriously have no idea how to pose. I have this old FF post where I’m twirling my hair and I look like an idiot.

HAHA you did it when your parents were home? I would’ve just asked my dad if he were home when I was taking the photos of myself, but my mom quickly adapted when I lugged my tripod downstairs to take pictures of food.

I guess when it comes to posing, you really just have to be natural or walk around instead of trying to pose, but at the same time, be conscious of what angles are showing off what.

Thanks for the comment, Georgie. It’s nice to see you around these parts of them woodz.

So you took these pics yourself? It’s impressive, very dedicated 🙂 I use my tripod to shot a dish where my hands appear… it was tricky! So I understand why it took you a while. Great outcome, by the way. Love the color of your dress and all the details of this outfit, happy you mentioned the brands so now I know where I can get that fantastic bracelet.

Hah yes I did indeed! I started using a tripod to take pictures of my food because you mentioned it hahaha. I didn’t use to before for some reason, but now I lug it downstairs or else no pictures for the blog. 🙂

The pictures you took came out good! I actually really dislike putting my camera on a tripod as well, but my brother is such a horrible picture taker. He doesn’t know how to position the tripod, and he doesn’t know anything about cameras.

I love your accessories! That’s something I’ve been slacking on lately, but it does make a huge difference in the outfit. I recently discovered Shoedazzle and it’s amazing! I’m kinda mad that I didn’t know about it before.

I know what you mean about taking pictures of yourself, especially in public. I try to look cool in the pictures but I feel really dumb and self-conscious about it. I always pick a secluded spot so people won’t see me much, if at all.

Shoedazzle is wonderful for cheap shoes! There is a bit of controversy around it though (Chinese child slave workers & what not), so I probably won’t be buying from them until more is clarified about it.

There’s also ShoeMint, but remember it’s a subscription site so you’ll have to skip the month every time you don’t want to buy something that month.

I think you’re pictures are really nice though. I suppose for me the more awkward part comes with asking someone to take the photo for me as I clearly try to pose instead of someone taking photos for me because it’s their job hahaha.

I love the accessories you chose to go with your outfit!

I will admit it is hard to get the right selfie. I honestly have to take at least 10 pictures of myself and have my boyfriend choose which picture or pictures he thinks maybe the best ones. From there — I go on my phone and edit the backgrounds a bit with some of their apps. I’m a bit self conscious about some aspects of my body. I think you did a great job taking your selfies.

Thanks! Well, luckily with LR I have much more freedom to edit the photos the way I want to than with iPhone apps, but I still love them nevertheless. I’m thankful that VSCO offers their app for free because I’m in love with their LR presets. Expensive, but my goodness they’re gorgeous. Instantly makes your photos look 1000x better.

Lookin’ good! I love how you coordinated the color well with the anchor theme. Wait, these were selfies!? I wouldn’t have guessed to be honest.

Great reminder! It’s very important to love yourself and embrace your passion, be it your personality or a hobby. I have the tendency to equate happiness with complacency, which bears some merit in and of itself all while containing flawed assumption. I’m still struggling in that department, but I know what must be done to overcome it. Self care is love. Thank you for the reminder. 🙂

A tripod & remote go far with selfies haha!

Thank YOU for the comment. Self care is indeed love. 🙂 I too have the tendency to equate happiness with complacency (especially in past relationships), but no more! Always gotta check yourself to make sure you’re not just being content, but that you’re really satisfied.

Love your outfit! You look so pretty in your photos! I especially like the color of your dress and how cute your shoes are 🙂 I do a lot of selfies with my DSLR to show cosplay progress, so I kind of got used to it, haha. I agree it’s a pain since it’s hard to tell how it’ll turn out while you’re doing it. I try to keep a tripod and light stand set up all the time, so I can just grab them when needed.

I don’t have a light stand unfortunately, but I won’t be needing one anytime soon. I love your cosplay photos though. Those obviously serve more purpose than me standing around trying to be pretty haha. But thank you for your kind words. 🙂

When I do outfit posts it’s like 80% with a tripod because no one near me is good at taking pictures 😛 so I kind of feel you because it can takes hours before I finally get 1 decent picture haah..

Anyway you look lovely ^__^ Xx

Thanks 🙂 yeah that to me is time not well spent. I love photography but I hate how much time goes into just taking one decent shot of yourself. I feel like I could’ve used that time to do something much more productive.

You look awesome in these pictures! (: Those pictures are actually taken very well! I don’t think I could use a tripod to take pictures this well or even at all. Congrats and I’m sorry it took so long to get some good pictures but at least you were able to get them.

The pictures look amazing and you look so beautiful! :’) I think that is so cool that you did take them yourself on a tripod! That would have been hard work and would have taken a lot of time. Hopefully you can get some more help next time. 😀

It definitely took a lot of fiddlin around, but I eventually got it. Selfies are interesting. Correction: selfies with tripods are interesting.

Exactly how does taking photos of yourself with a tripod work? Did you just set the timer and have it snap shots? Or did you have one of those button things to click? I don’t see one of those in your hands so I assume the first.

You look gorgeous though! I’ve always admired your sense of fashion (from the Facebook images I see and your sidebar profile pictures). You’re amazing with photography so whether it’s food or fashion you’re into, I support you either way.

And in response to your last comment:
I did change my layout. The purple just didn’t seem “professional” or “appealing to the eyes” as much as the teal does.

And I’m hoping to invest more time in the “Humans of Seattle Coffee Shops” project once I have more time on my hands. I’m currently only doing it to meet class deadlines but I can’t wait to be free from the grading rubric so I can fiddle with the idea as I please. The second post took a very different direction so I’m excited to read what you think. I rely on feedback from readers such as yourself and I’m glad you enjoyed the first post!

I used a remote to take my selfies haha. I did my best trying to hide it. I think the most difficult shot was the one with my hands & accessories.

Thank you for your compliments! That’s so sweet of you to say. I think my photos are okay, but I am making a major conscious effort to improve my food pictures so recipes will be pretty to look at. 🙂 I shop online a lot because sometimes I really can’t deal with the mall. Forever21 & H&M have really cheap clothes, but you get what you pay for. Zara is another favorite of mine if ever you need a point of reference for my “style” hahaa.

That blue dress looks fabulous on you!! It complements your skin tone so well! I also love the stack of arm candy you wore. There’s something about a fun, chunky watch and bangles that just make an outfit sparkle (literally, haha!)
