This post might be kind of annoying because it’s not a straight forward recipe sharing post, but a review for some products Influenster sent me. I know, I know – I’m sorry if you hate these, but I promise I have a recipe for you, it’s just not edible. 😛 So, I’m all about organic & natural products for numerous environmental, ecological, & socioeconomic reasons, but I’m also annoyingly sensitive to certain chemicals, which I inherited from my mom. Mom can’t tolerate a lot of cheaper end products because of the low quality, chemical laden ingredients they use as filler, which causes her to break out in hives. I’ve also found that none of those really cheap face scrubs or washes particularly work for me. In fact, I believe they cause me to break out even more or leave my skin really dry. My body is maddeningly posh. While I probably couldn’t taste the difference between a 4x distilled vodka versus a “premium” 7x distilled vodka, my body can & it’ll do so in the form of whether or not I get a hangover. My ears? Listen, if I even try to wear anything that isn’t real gold, silver, or platinum, I’ll develop an infection. Pus is gross, y’all. It’s literally irritating. I’m not proud of these things, trust me; I’d happily purchase affordable earrings made with whatever metallic concoction in troves, but my body is annoyingly sensitive. It’s a diva, I really can’t help it if I wanted to. I didn’t ask for this!!
Projects
Last month, I posted half of the results of a Blind Taste Test I conducted with my roommates MOA & Yuri along with MOA’s friend David. The first half of Part 1 covered Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts vs. Trader Joe’s Toaster Pastries along with Pirate Brands’s Pirate Booty vs. Trader Joe’s Corn Puffs. A correction must be made about the last post – I was incorrect about Pirate Booty not being available in other flavors because they also come in barbeque, sour cream & onion, & veggie. I’m human, I make mistakes, y’all!
So how did our taste testers fair with Tea Chai Te’s loose leaf tea vs. Tea Forté’s pyramid infuser & Trader Joe’s Organic Ketchup vs. Heinz’s Ketchup? Find out after the jump!

Happy New Year to everyone! Hopefully 2014 won’t be a filler episode for you like 2013 was for many. Personally, 2013 was half a wonderful year & half miserable. It was wonderful since I finally graduated, met Josh–an amazing & hilarious individual I call my boyfriend–& I got to spend more time with some of my closest, but busiest, friends. Yet, it was miserable because if I wasn’t happy, I was stressed or depressed in some shape or form trying to organize the next decade of my life. If I wasn’t somehow masterfully disappointing myself, someone else would disappoint me instead.
I’ve never really enjoyed New Year’s & this year was no exception. Josh flew back home to Florida to spend time with his family. Despite being 3 hours ahead, he stayed up until it was 12 AM in California to Skype me even though his eyes were obviously growing heavy with sleep. Had I tried to keep him up any longer, he’d probably be snoring in the middle of my story telling! He didn’t want me to be alone, but my house was completely void of human life except my own. He was really sweet & it was the perk of the week especially since I was recovering from a 72 hour migraine & the cough I had, developed into a fever. I’ve been practically bedridden for a week, so I haven’t been able to study very much either.
Nevertheless, I’m using my break time from studying to post up my very first Blind Taste Test featuring corn puffs, ketchup, poptarts, & tea. I conducted a BTT with my roommate–who’d like to remain anonymous–Miss MOA (Michelle Obama Arms) & her friend David. Afterward, MOA tested our roommate Yuri & me with the same products. The results were pretty interesting!

CLICK THE PHOTO FOR MORE PHOTOS TO SEE MY ASSEMBLY PROCESS!! Happy 4th of July, Americans! Summer is here & most girls, myself included, are annoyed that their make-up is melting off their face. You can either lay around to avoid movement or you can try to decorate your home with some beautiful summery beach themed terrariums. If you think playing with sand & succulents is going to make you too hot, then you can just sit this one out & enjoy an ice pop. Lazy.
Terrariums are making a comeback & seem to be popping up nearly everywhere! Although my Herbal Terrariums germinated, I wasn’t completely satisfied with them. Herbs are a bit difficult to care for when they’re confined indoors to small spaces, which is why I decided I should try the traditional succulent terrariums instead. Succulents are native to arid regions of the world aka deserts. They thrive without needing to be watered every day as many will only require being watered once every 2 weeks. Since they’re such low maintenance plants, they’re perfect for terrariums. If you’re not sure about how to remove potted succulents, try finding some air plants instead. Planting those should be an absolute breeze since you won’t need to remove them from any dirt! Without further ado, I present to you DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Beach Terrariums!
DIY Beach Themed Terrariums
You will need:
- Horticulture sand (not sand from the beach or from your yard, horticulture sand)
- See-through glass jars, containers, fishbowls, etc.
- Activated Charcoal
- River pebbles, glass pebbles, decorative sea glass, etc.
- Shovel, spoon, or scoop
- Gloves
- Succulents
- Seashells
You can find succulents at your grocery store, gardening center, &/or, but not limited to, some home supply stores such as OSH. You’ll need to make a trip out to a gardening store or stores like OSH to find the activated charcoal & horticulture sand. Arts & craft stores should cover the rest of the things you need.
Step 1
Clean & dry all of the glassware you plan on using as well as the decorative material. Seashells should be thoroughly washed as the salt remaining on the shells can add unwanted salt to the sand.
Step 2
In order to create a drainage system for the roots of your succulents, place a layer of the pebbles in your glassware. If you have a lot of shells, you can also place those in too. Next, scoop in a layer of activated charcoal into your terrarium. This will prevent mold from growing & it’ll enrich the sand. Layer the sand over the charcoal amounting to more than ~1.5 inches or so.
Step 3
Using a small spoon or shovel, dig a hole through the sand layer to place your succulents. Cover up the hole with more sand. Once you’ve finished planting & placing your succulents, scoop in a thin layer of sand.
Step 4
Decorate your terrarium with seashells or sea glass. Get creative & enjoy!
Here’s an updated post on the progress of the herbal terrariums I made for my mom. Be sure to click the picture to view more. I’m really excited that the herbs are sprouting. We’re celebrating my parents’ 27th anniversary today & although the herbs aren’t ready to use, they’re germinating! Good to know that the first time I’ve ever tried to grow something, they didn’t die. I planted a mishmash of herbs in each terrarium, so I couldn’t tell you which of the herbs are growing right now if you asked. Check back later for more pictures from Europe.
