Have Yourself A Very Scented Christmas

December 25, 2014 // Posted in DIY / Projects, Photo Journal

Happy Christmas to all of you observing it & a very, very happy holidays to those of you who aren’t. The holidays make December one of my favorite months, especially because Christmas is the perfect excuse for my entire family & close friends to gather around over a huge feast & partake in gift-giving. Seeing my huge family during the holidays makes the day so enjoyable & something I look forward to every year. The food, the company, the drinks, the scents, the desserts, & the fun, there’s so much sensory overload, how can you not be overwhelmed with joy? Speaking of senses, did you know that scent is one of our 5 senses that is closely tied with memory? I’m sure most of you already know that, so let’s drive this point even further: Holiday Diffusers. Make your home smell exactly like the happy holidays with essential oils, vodka (or rubbing alcohol), a glass bottle, & diffuser reeds.

I just wanted to thank all of you who wished me well on my move to Boston. In the world of food blogging, it’s really quite rare that people will actually read what you write, so I’m thankful to those that take the time to read my blurbs. While many of you might be a bunch of internet strangers, I appreciate the generosity & support you’ve shown me as my blog & academic career continue to move forward. Here are a bunch of pictures of food I ate &/or made that I forgot to put up. For more posts on pictures of food I ate, explore my Foodie Fridays category.

Herbal Terrariums for my Mom

DIY Herbal Terrarium

My mom works really hard thus likes to spoil herself a lot, so you can only imagine what you could possibly give one of the best moms in the world for mother’s day, her anniversary, or her birthday. When I was in France a few weeks ago, she raised the spending limit on my credit card so that I could purchase her a Louis Vuitton purse! Since she can pretty much buy herself anything her heart desires–besides a G5 & a new house in Newport Coast–I decided to make her an herbal terrarium for a belated mother’s day & early anniversary & birthday present. She uses tons of herbs such as cilantro, dill, basil, & oregano in her cooking, so why not plant them for her to use?

Terrariums make great gifts to your mom, grandma, aunt, or anyone moving into a new home! They’re often filled with succulents, but I decided on planting herbs. Terrariums aren’t just pretty to stare at, they also bring fresh supplies of oxygen into your home. It was my first time planting herbs, so if any of them germinate by my parents’ anniversary, which is on the 15th, it’ll truly be the perfect gift for my mom. Dad may appreciate it…although he’d probably wish I planted a money tree instead.
